COMPETITION RULES

 

Definitions:

1. Entry Requirements
  • Eligibility: Age, residency, or experience level restrictions (e.g., student, amateur, professional).

  • Theme/Genre: Some competitions have a set theme, genre, or specific requirements (e.g., horror, documentary, short film, animation).

  • Film Length: Minimum and maximum runtime (e.g., short films under 15 minutes, feature-length over 60 minutes).

  • Production Date: Some competitions only accept films produced within a certain timeframe.

2. Submission Materials
  • Completed Film: In the required format (MP4, MOV, AVI, etc.).

  • Trailer (if required): Some festivals ask for a short promotional clip.

  • Film Poster: High-resolution image for promotional use.

  • Synopsis: A brief summary of the film (usually 100-300 words).

  • Director’s Statement: Explanation of the film’s vision and intent.

  • Crew and Cast List: A complete list of people involved in production.

  • Production Stills: Behind-the-scenes or high-quality film stills.

3. Technical Requirements
  • Resolution: HD (1920x1080) or 4K, depending on competition requirements.

  • Aspect Ratio: 16:9, 4:3, or specified by the competition.

  • Audio Specifications: Stereo or surround sound requirements.

  • Subtitles: If required, especially for international submissions.

4. Legal & Rights Clearance
  • Copyright Clearance: Ensure all music, images, and footage are cleared for use.

  • Talent & Location Releases: Signed agreements from actors and locations.

  • Parental Consent: If minors are involved in the film.

  • Distribution Rights: Some festivals may require exclusivity or specific rights agreements.

5. Entry Fee & Submission Process
  • Submission Platform: FilmFreeway, Withoutabox, or direct festival website.

  • Entry Fee: Some competitions charge a submission fee.

  • Deadline: Early bird, regular, and late deadlines (each with different fees).

  • Upload Method: Online link, physical DVD/Blu-ray, or USB drive.

6. Additional Considerations
  • Marketing & Promotion: Some festivals may request a press kit.

  • Screening Format: Ensure you provide the correct format for in-person or online screenings.

  • Travel & Attendance: If selected, check if you need to attend in person.
